Hi from Windsor District RCMP. This is probably my last submission to the Uniacke Newsletter as your Community Policing Officer. I have been asked by the Editor to keep in touch when I get up to the Yukon, which I will be happy to do.
I would like to take this opportunity to encourage everyone to please call the detachment when they see or hear anything that should be investigated by police. I know some people are scared to report things in fear of retaliation but, when someone calls us the only way the “suspected person(s)” know who called on them is if the complainant tells those persons themselves. We do not supply the information to the suspected person(s). I wish we could be everywhere all the time but that is not the case. If no one calls us, in most cases we have no idea what is taking place and therefore can’t provide assistance. You can also call us with the information and request to remain anonymous or there’s always Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-8477). So you see, there are many ways to get information to us. Also, if you are going to call us on anything, it is very helpful if you call when the incident is taking place, day or night, no matter the time. It is more difficult to investigate a matter after the fact. As I have stated in the past, we need your help to keep our communities safe.
Some of you may have noticed that the RCMP Traffic Services Section has been in the Mount Uniacke area as of late. These members are specifically looking for any type of traffic offences. We have had a lot of complaints of vehicles not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign. Some drivers continue to roll through. Not only is this illegal but if you are involved in a crash as a result, no doubt your insurance rates could go up and with the price of gas these days, we all need that extra cash to run our vehicles. The stop signs are there for a reason. If anything, think of children who may be on bikes, walking, etc. and possibly not paying a lot of attention. I know if I were to hit a child with my vehicle, it would be something unpleasant I would have to deal with for the rest of my days. So expect to see more of our Traffic Services members in the area. Please continue to watch out for one another and stay and play safe! Cheers to you all and so long! George
