                                            SURVEY RESULTS

Capital District Health Authority and Community Health board report on Our Health survey Results

In the spring of 2009 over 2800 telephone surveys were completed within Capital Health.  This was broken down to 400 from each of the seven Community Health Boards within the Capital District.  Do you remember answering a 30 – 40 minute survey re health issues for you and your family?  The results of those 400 random phone calls made by Market Quest Research on our behalf have now come together in a final report that was shared with the residents of West Hants/Uniacke on Thursday, October 15th at the Three Mile Plain Community Hall.

Eighty-two percent (82%) of those people surveyed rated their health as good, very good or excellent.  Other positive things to note would be 84% felt they had someone to show love and affection toward and 86% had someone to count on.

On a less positive note 26% of our citizens still smoke compared to the rest of Capital Health (HRM) where 20% are smokers.  To cope with stress 34% eat more or less than usual,  24% sleep more, 17% use alcohol, drugs or medication and 12% smoke more.

By evening end those in attendance had identified lack of Physical Activity, unhealthy eating and unhealthy weight as areas of concern and issues to be addressed.  Mental Health concerns and access to health care services (specials) were coming in second and third place.

For more information on the survey, or to read the total report or compare our area to the rest of Capital Health go to www.ourhealthsurvey.ca   All information will be posted on the website in the next little while.  If you have questions, or would like to share your comments/concerns please call the West Hants/Uniacke Community Health Board Office at  798-2210 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
