To the Editor:
Yesterday I came across the news that Long Lake (between the communities
of Mount Uniacke, East Uniacke, and South Rawdon in Hants County) is under an
immediate threat by development.   Being an outdoorsman, I travel from my home in
neighboring Beaver Bank to the Mount Uniacke-Long Lake Area on a monthly basis.
The mature forests, meandering rivers, and unspoiled vistas offer solitude and natural
beauty that is becoming harder and harder to find in
Central Nova Scotia.
The Long Lake - Herbert River wilderness area deserves to be fully protected
by the provincial Wilderness Areas Protection Act.   I realize due to the large
percentage of land in this area being privately owned, provincially protecting this
land will be a long and challenging process.
I understand you have been working hard for the people of Mount Uniacke on
this matter.   I appreciate the work you have been doing on  this issue.
Thank you.  Andrew MacDougall, Beaver Bank, NS
