Points To Ponder With Constable Harris
It’s getting close to that time of year when a lot of people are tired of the cold and
are heading South. You have to ask yourself this question before you leave,
“ Who is watching your home while you’re on vacation?”
Please consider the following:
Visibility Factors: Can people look inside your home through your windows and
see expensive items?
Keep valuables out of plain view, keep blinds/drapes closed, don’t hang keys
where they are visible.
Keep valuables safe: Keep jewelry, valuable papers etc. locked up when away
from the home. Have other valuables engraved so that they can be identified if stolen.
Consider photographing or videotaping your property as this will assist police in the
event your property is stolen.
Get to know your neighbours: Arrange to have friends/neighbours check your
property, collect your mail/newspapers and watch for suspicious activity.
Invest in monitoring systems: Consider an alarm, notification system or timers for
lighting and electronics.
Advise your local police agency: Let police know when you are leaving/returning
and name of key holder in case something happens.
