DRIVERS WITH LIGHTS

OFF WILL BE FINED

Motorists in Nova Scotia can no longer use the excuse that they’re in the dark about the province’s headlight laws.

RCMP say the grace period is over and people driving without daytime running lights or headlights on will be charged.

The law went into effect April 1, 2009 but police haven’t always issued tickets before now.

Police say research shows the use of lights during the day reduces crashes by 10 to 15 per cent, collisions with animals by 10% and car-pedestrian collisions by 25%.

The fine for driving without headlights or lights is $167.71.
