COUNCILOR NOTES
Regular
bus service may link Windsor and much of Hants
County
to Halifax before long as talks and research continue with Kings Transit asking
consultants to research the matter and report by March 15.
There
have been several indications of interest received. Kings is offering $30,000 of provincial
government money held in a little-known fund called the Transport Regional
Incentive Plan.
If
the bus line gets the money, the consultants can be hired. If the consultants’ report is positive,
various county councils may vote the money to go ahead.
The tax bills will soon be out and into your
homes. Remember, if you qualify for a
“tax break”
you must apply for this general exemption.
Each year the Council sets a general exemption rate in accordance with
Section 69 of the Municipal Government Act.
This exemption applies to taxpayers in the Municipality whose household
income does not exceed the amount set by Council.
For the 2009/2010 taxation year the
exemption was a minimum of $137 (this will vary depending on the number of
services paid for by the tax payer by way of area rates). This applies to
households whose household income does not exceed the limits as outlined below.
Deadline for Application is usually in August.
Applications for this exemption can be
obtained from the Municipal office, by mail or exemption.pdf. Any inquires or requests should be
directed to Brian Enfield, Collection Officer at 1-866-758-2299. Proof of
income in the form of a CCRA Notice of Assessment and proof of the number of
dependent children (Notice of Child Tax Benefit form the Federal Government) must
accompany the application form. Applicants must reapply annually.
If you have any questions or require
assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me or the Municipality and we
will assist in any way we can.
Further news
from Canada Post: people who currently don’t incorporate civic
addressing in their mailing address, will receive information and free change
of address cards when Canada Post changes
from the green boxes to a community mail box, since that is how they label the
latter. A very quick survey was carried out on mail
presently going through the green boxes. The
senders were just using civic address and not the rural route designation. Using civic addressing reduces errors and
makes it easier to sort the mail if there is a replacement driver. Canada Post
also likes to use the civic addressing because it supports 911.
Council has agreed upon/passed the request from
Enfield RCMP and Windsor RCMP detachments for the hiring on of two new RCMP
constables – one for each division. As
our communities continue to grow, sadly, so does the crime rate. We are anticipating better coverage and
quicker response time. Rosanne Bland, Councilor,
District 12, Mount Uniacke
