Dear Parents / Guardians,
February was a very busy, although successful month
for everyone associated with UDS. I
would like to thank all students, parents/guardians, and our staff for their
efforts in making February a great month.
Brenda Taylor has been away on sick leave and we wish
her a speedy recovery. Nicole Benedict - Sanson has been appointed to Acting
Vice Principal in Brenda's absence. Nicole has a Master's Degree in
Guidance which will be very helpful in this role.
Please read the events that are taking place and
encourage your child to participate. I
would also like to encourage all parents/guardians to become involved at our
school in any way possible.
The teaching staff and administration at UDS can be
contacted via e-mail anytime that you have a question or concern related to
your child’s academic progress. All
staff e-mail addresses are available online at our website: http://uniacke.ednet.ns.ca
Sincerely yours, Darlene Walker
Spring Fair
Please mark May 29th
on your calendar for the annual UDS Spring Fair. We will be asking for
volunteers and parent support in April to early May!
Year Books
Once again this year there will be two year
books: one for grades P-6 and the other
for grades 7-9. The cost of the yearbooks is $8.00. Order
forms will be going home in the spring.
These books make a great memory keeper for students of activities they
have participated in and pictures of the year.
Thank you to Miss Anderson, Ms. Bedard and student
leaders for your commitment and dedication in providing wonderful school
memories for students and families.
Haiti Relief
Fundraiser
The Grade Three classes made lovely bookmarks which were sold to family
and friends in support of the Red Cross. They raised a total of $135.00
for Haiti Relief.
Breakfast Program
Supporters
Again this year, our friends at the Royal Canadian
Legion, Branch #165, are holding a "Ham and Turkey Bingo" in support
of the UDS Breakfast Program. The date is Sunday evening, March 28,
at 7 p.m. Last Spring the Legion bingo netted over a
thousand dollars and allowed the Uniacke District School Breakfast Program to
continue. Each month we supply breakfast to approximately 1,200 students
and, as you can imagine, the milk alone is expensive. Breakfast programs
are not merely a response to poverty, but, in fact, research has shown that
ample family income does not guarantee that students come to school well
nourished and ready to learn. Please join us on March 28 in
supporting this worthy school cause.
Grade Nine
Leadership
Our grade nine students were very successful in
fundraising over $300.00 to support Haiti by organizing a sock hop for junior
high students and mini games for Primary –Three students. A special thank you
is extended to Matt Page and Kyle Isenor for their leadership in presenting and
organizing the games day for elementary students. A fun filled day was enjoyed
by all participating students. Thank you to all grade nine students.
