June 2008 Mount Uniacke Firefighter Parade

Letter to the Editor - Nicoll Print E-mail
Written by Doug Nicoll

Letter to the Editor: Hello members of the Uniacke Newsletter.  I don’t believe I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Rosanne, but I’ve known Joyce for most of her young life.

“Well” Rosanne and your past and present staff.  I feel surely grateful to have been able to acquire and read your paper from its beginning.  The people of Mount Uniacke should be pleased to have had you look into the many problems in the area, seen resolutions, and pursue them to successful conclusions.

I’m also very pleased to hear of your election to the Hants East Council “CONGRATULATIONS”, “well done” and “well deserved”.

I’m sorry to hear of the passing of Gloria.  I knew her for many years.  I’m sure you miss her good work and friendly manner.

I lived in Mount Uniacke most of my life.  I moved to Edmonton in 2006 to be near my four children and seven grandchildren.  It was nice growing up in the Mount and I still like it.

I attended the one and only little one room school in Mount Uniacke in the early forties where Ronald and Bessie Mizon attended.

I believe it was 1940 -1941 when I met them, and so did my sister Annie (Ann) and older brothers – Francis and Gerald.  Francis and Gerald always gave me a hard time.  Or was it?

I enjoy reading the stories from Ronald and would like to somehow contact him.  When I worked for National Defence, I visited England three times and I couldn’t find a way to get in touch with him.

My work consisted of repairing and completely overhauling ships’ heavy guns in HMC dockyard, so I travelled a lot.

I hope to visit my old stomping grounds this, or next summer, and while I’m there I’d sure like to pay you a visit.

Thank you for all you’ve done for the community and for your great Newsletter.  Wishing you the very best.

Doug Nicoll, Edmonton, Alberta.

Editor’s note: Doug, we would really like to meet you as well.  Maybe you could visit us and chat while we are stuffing the sections of the Newsletter together and experience first hand the camaraderie and the enjoyment of working together? Thank you for your kind words and your support.
